What is a Business analyst and what do they do?

Business Analysts help maximize a business’s effectiveness through data-driven decisions. They use data to identify issues in virtually any part of an organization, including IT processes, organizational structures and staff development. Business analysts often work closely with others throughout the business hierarchy to communicate their findings and help implement changes.

The more you learn about business analytics, the more capable you’ll be in making informed decisions, increasing revenue and improving operational efficiency. If you enjoy helping people, asking questions, solving problems and working independently, a career as a business analyst could be a good fit.

Where does a business analyst work?

Business Analysts can work full-time, part-time, freelance or as independent contractors across a variety of career fields. They usually split their time between their offices and the clients’ sites.

"The case studies in the Greensboro College's Analytics Certification Program helped me develop real world analytics skills. Working through Excel, Power BI and Tableau helped make analytics concepts much easier to understand. I now feel ready to start my career as an analyst."

– Gavin
