What is a Human Resources Manager and what do they do?

Human resources (HR) managers oversee the entire human resources department and ensure team members are performing their duties effectively. They meet with executive-level employees to strategize the hiring process and work to ensure their team members carry out tasks that achieve desired outcomes. 

HR managers often conduct exit interviews and handle sensitive employee issues. They’re also responsible for maintaining department records and organizational charts.

Where does a Human Resources Manager work?

HR managers can work in a variety of industries, such as healthcare, cybersecurity, finance, government agencies and many others. Most HR managers work full time during regular business hours in an office setting.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the job outlook for HR managers is projected to grow 9% through 2030. About 14,800 job openings are projected for each year. 

The BLS reports the median annual wage for a HR manager in 2021 was $126,230, and the highest 10% earned more than $208,000.

(Spring class dates are subject to change due to NC COVID-19 restrictions)

Cost and Inclusions

$1,300 (includes books and materials) or $1,400 for students who wish to have the online component added along with books and materials. Exam and application fees are additional and the responsibility of the student.
